Redefining the Future of Healthcare; Data-Driven Physician

What is data-driven physician?

According to a Health Trends Report that was published in 2020, physicians have never been more prepared for the complete transformation of patient care. Especially during the times when we are profound with technologies and data that is progressing exponentially.

Some of the key trends that would spearhead the transformation of healthcare are examples like starting an emergency digital health market, laws in favour of any patient’s access to data, clearing any kind of regulatory traction by using artificial intelligence.

Data that is driven comes with a cost

Doctors have always been data-driven since the beginning. The only difference is that initially we were driven by less amount of data and now we have no shortage of data. This implies that data-driven physicians are rising.

In a clinical setting, a doctor interacts with data that comes from the patient than the patient themselves. The reductionist tendency is one of the main factors that differentiate a patient and doctor. Despite this, being data-driven comes with its own set of costs that must be considered when compared to patient-driven data.

2020 Health Report; Fixing the missing puzzle

It wasn’t easy to fix the report, as some of the findings in it were tough to reconcile. Most of the people who took the survey believed that they are qualified enough to work in a data-driven, technology-mediated, and futuristic world. This contradicts the issue regarding the lack of attention being given to these topics in the medical school syllabus. Furthermore, the kind of knowledge, new grads possess about disruptive technology is also a testimony to this. The survey takers felt that only a third of what they manually do would be automated in the next 20 years. Little are they aware of how completely wrong they are.

The future: Human-centric or data-driven?

Perceiving the changing dynamics of the human connection between the doctor and a patient also becomes important eventually and we are likely to come across this as a survey topic in most health reports.

Some of the important questions that need to be addressed here are:

  • How do doctors discern the human connection developing in the clinical space?
  • What are the patient’s thoughts on the growth of data-driven physician?

Understanding the lighter elements of medicine through a survey can raise a lot of confusing challenges. But diverting the general attention to these important issues is the need of the hour now and this gives the necessary weightage to crucial industry reports.
